colored boy up to no good
who knows the intricacies of a nine millimeter
before he can speak his first words
following in the footsteps of his absent father
he's learned two things
to love only one woman
his mother
and how to continue the cycle
his children
know nothing of him
besides the monthly letters
from the state penitentiary
where he daydreams
of time lost
my brothas this is my plea
My prayer
to rewrite
the histories of the sons
that have yet to be born
how will these boys grow up to be men
